Cradle On The Nile

In the belly of the slave
Two souls became one
But what we just couldn't save
Were two hearts still on the run
I gave you my solemn pledge
More than you'll ever know
As we lay on the water's edge
By the river of Pharaoh

We pleased the Mother god so
That she made her room in you
And as the sky fell low
Blessed us with the sun and moon
And in the high holy days
She came unto us with a smile
As night and day made their way
In a cradle down the Nile

You tried to hide in vain
What your eyes still give away
The life you have regained
From the heart you would betray
The seeds she had us sow
Would never have to grow
And we will always know
What brought down your walls of Jericho

In a field of dead barley
I lay all our dreams to rest
Drowning in my memory
Your river's dark secrets
And set to sail away
Across these endless miles
Wrapped in holy sheets of gray
A cradle on the Nile.
