Tips on Packing by Georgette Gooden : GFURBYGIRL@cs.com Vacation time is a hassle for some and a breeze for others. With the last minute shopping, passport renewal and other such sundries it is no wonder packing as become such a hassle. The norm is to pack as much as you can which often lead to us over packing and of course leaking of the toiletries. One way to overcome this is by packing a little differently. I came up with this technique a couple years back and found it not only efficient but practical as well. The first thing I buy is a notebook in which to jot my notes about where I am going, the places I would like to visit and a guideline for the clothes I'll wear each day. After this I then go through the clothes list and eliminate as much as possible by coordinating several outfits out of a few items. Accessories are usually easy to pack as they can be stuffed in shoes or any pockets of the bag you're taking so you can take as much as you like. I found it easier to take two or three pairs of shoes for a vacation lasting from a few days to two weeks, taking into consideration the type of trip it is. The best way to start packing is sort your clothes - sleepwear, underwear, outer garments, accessories, hosieries and shoes. In a tote or duffle bag that has several compartments you should pack your sleepwear, underwear, accessories, hosieries and toiletries together. This I found made my life easy, as I would just grab the tote and head to the bathroom. I have everything in easy access to prepare for bed. In a larger bag I would pack my outer clothing and shoes. I am partial to suiter because it allows you the flexibility to hang a couple of garments as well as pack the others. Remember the golden rule. Shoes to the bottom and you can also use them to put jewelries, camera, batteries, films and socks! You may argue that you don't plan on bringing anything that needs to be hanged up. But I beg to differ as you can hang several T-shirts, blouses or summer dresses. This will free up your space in the bag for an extra pair of jeans or shoes. Never fold as this will take up too much room, always roll because the key is to use all available space efficiently. There are several pack-it aids on the market that not only make it simple to pack but also functional. Utilize outer pockets of bags for sweater, umbrellas, travel documents, etc., all with the main purpose of making readily available to you. So start packing and planning early in order to enjoy your vacation from get go.
